Today we are dreaming of…..Dessert Bars!

Today is Tuesday – and we are immersed in thoughts of Sweets!

This is because we’re working on a dessert bar for this weekend’s Surprise 40th Birthday Bash! Instead of having a Candy Buffet, we’ve decided to do a Dessert Bar, rich with not only candy, but a wealth of other treats too. We will have a cake/cupcake display and use this as the centerpiece for the table. Then we will add the candy, cookies, moonpies and other wonderful treats!  Whenever you’re building your dessert bar, remember that it’s important to add decorative accents to your table like a table runner, candles, flowers….anything that will enhance the theme. Stay tuned for our blog post next week as we’ll be sure to share the pics of this weekend’s creation! Below..we’re gathering inspiration from some great ideas we found online for dessert bars!

Get a Little Crazy!

So you can’t wait to take those beautiful photos that you’ll forever cherish of your wedding day. Do you really want to thumb through pics that look like every other couple’s wedding day? Of course not. On this day, your wedding style should be uniquely yours and this should be reflected throughout your photos.

So, here are a few tips when shopping for a photographer.

Find a photographer that matches your personality. Look through portfolios to see if he/she has the versatility and imagination to capture each couple’s style. Make sure you don’t see the same exact pictures, in the same exact setting/order in each book. The photographer should have a nice mix of both portrait and photojournalistic photos throughout their books.

Be honest. Tell the photographer what you want to achieve in your photos. I suggest a few “fun and crazy” photos like the one above. If you’re wearing funky shoes under your gown, make sure he/she gets a great shot of that! Make sure he captures that glance your groom gives you as you approach him for the first time on your wedding day. Great photographers have a keen eye for such things, but it doesn’t hurt to point out some things that are must-haves for you.

Make a list of family/friend photos that you want to take. Having this list will assist the photographer in organizing folks and getting the job done smoothly.

Your photographer should be thinking about where he wants to take shots. All your photos don’t need to be in front of the winding staircase:) Does the venue have a beautiful garden or patio? Does the venue’s bridal suite or library have beautiful furnishings? Is there a beautiful terrace overlooking a grand lawn? If you’re stumped for spots at your venue, research nearby parks or museums that you may use for photo ops.

To get the most out of your photo session, consider having some photos before the ceremony. It’ll save you time so that you can enjoy your reception without being pulled away. And it’s a beautiful way to have some special ” alone” time prior to the big moment and really absorb what you’re feeling for each other – on camera! The “first look” photos are always priceless and a lovely “private” moment.

Whatever you do, make sure you don’t forget to have fun! It’ll come across beautifully in those photographs that you’ll be viewing for a lifetime!
